Meeting Minutes – February 2016

February 11, 2016 by FLA Admin

February 1, 2016
Cumberland House of Pizza

Present: Janene Gorham, John Gorham, Debi Curry, Jon Curry, Kim, Liz Hamilton, Greg Schulz, Ellie Schulz

Pot Luck
Decided on March due to weather being less likely for snow. Date will be March 12, at 5 pm at Methodist Church Hall. Will be St. Patty’s day pot luck.

Liz with OK dates with Pat Larrabee.

John will put up signs.

Debi will put on Face Book page.

Winter News Letter
Decision was made to email updates to members instead of Newsletter as limited items that can be put in right now. Will do spring one instead in May. Debi agrees to do again provided she has enough info to put in it.

Summer Lake Surveys
Greg expressed need to do one this year to check run off areas especially in light of new housing, tree cutting on marsh area. Kim also had concerns about erosion running down James Way from construction up on the hill .

We have no info from Karen and Jim regarding last surveys and Jim and Ed had planned to videotape shoreline to document changes. No word on this. Janene will check with Bob Heyner, Soil and Water Conservation, and DEP to get info on what we need to do to get a survey done and if we can get funding for another one.

Members agree this is needed.

Tree Cutting along Marsh on Forest Lake Rd in Cumberland
Town of Cumberland cut large trees along this area without notification. The tress had grown up and provided a noise barrier as well as barrier to turnpike pollution. Janene has contacted town officials, Chris Boldoc, Assist manager did come out and take photos. They feel they have done nothing to violate any laws and trees were blocking road view?

Greg and Janene will try to set up time to meet with him to discuss.

Also gravel pit behind Forest Lane homes has become environmentally worrisome to lake health. Janene plans to discuss with Cumberland council.

Water Quality Testing
Jim and Ed would like to stop doing this after many years of service. John has taken the course from VLMP and Janene will take it in spring. Ed will demonstrate where to test in the spring.

Will send out email as to next testing date so others interested can attend also. Testing area takes place in Auburn, requires about 6 -8 hrs of time.

Join Maine Lake Society (formerly COLA)
Greg stated that in the past membership was costly and previous FLA board members felt it was not worth the cost. Janene will look into cost.

Annual Milfoil Summit Scheduled for Feb. 28, 2016
Anyone interested in attending should go. Janene plans on going

Annual Meeting Date
July 23 with July 30 as backup date.  Liz will check with Pat.

Next Meeting
Spring meeting date will be April 18 at CHOP at 6 pm.  May try to find quieter place but most like CHOP.

Submitted Janene Gorham for
Kaylene Mitchell (out for maternity leave)
