Forest Lake Association Annual Meeting
West Cumberland Methodist Church Hall
July 25, 2015
Meeting called to order by Jim Gameros at 8:30 am after a delicious pot luck breakfast. Forty-five people attended.
Secretary Minutes from 2014 were read by Janene Gorham and accepted.
Treasurer Report by Elie Schulz was distributed for review, and accepted.
Fireworks fire concern: Ralph Ludington reported a fire on Memorial Day weekend that destroyed 2 new kayaks, a canoe, and his sailboat on his waterfront. Firefighters at the scene said it was most likely caused from a smoldering firework set off earlier that evening. Fireworks can travel up to one mile and remain lit. Fortunately no one was injured. July 4th fireworks were beautiful but plentiful and caution must be heeded in future.
Invasive Plant Patrol Monitors
Ed Keenan will continue to lead the group for another year. We have 13 volunteers. Please use caution around snorkelers while they are observing lake bottoms especially around and under dock areas.
Water Quality
Ed also reports that he and Jim have done the required testing. The lake is in very good shape, clarity is excellent with Secchi disc
reading at 22 ft. No coli has been found. John and Janene Gorham are scheduled to take VLMP training classes to continue testing, Jim and Ed are resigning from this after 15 + years. Thanks to Jim and Ed. Ed also reports our pair of loons are still healthy and 2 eggs are on the nest!
Safety
Jon Curry reviewed basic rules, headway speed, no wake zones, buoys, caution be on lookout for swimmers and paddlers. 16 ft boats and larger should have whistle on board. Reminder still runway N/S, E/W on lake.
- Planes have right of way.
- Respect each other. All of us share common bond of water uses.
- Stay out of power boat lanes if in use if you are a paddler for your safety.
General Discussion
- Discussion around possible cut off at Cottage Rd.
- Speed bumps on Lakeside drive stolen, Gray fire/safety will not respond to
calls if not enough room to turn emergency vehicles if road closed off. - Increased traffic from James Way houses is issue and 44 more houses are
planned in the area. Road associations need to band together. - Concern was expressed by many of possible turnpike exit in West
Cumberland
